These owlets were hatched March 7 to parents Bonnie and Clyde. The nest is located on a farm in Kansas, U.S.A. Bonnie delivers a large rodent to the nest. Though Bonnie has to show him which end should be swallowed first (the head), the owlet finally gets it down after a bit of effort. It's been nearly 62 days post-hatch and the eaglets are getting ready for flight. They were returned to the nest February 5 by the Clinic for the Rehabilitation for Wildlife after some much needed medical care, but just look at them now! On January 29, the two baby eaglets were removed from the nest with the combined efforts of C.R.O.W. (Clinic for the Rehabilitation of Wildlife) and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service due to having severe eye infections. They were treated, recovered and were placed back in the nest February 5. It's not revenge. Great horned owls are predators of magpies. Magpies being well aware of this fact attempt to harass their predators away. Their fledglings are particularly vulnerable to owls, and the two brought to the nest may well represent this. It's not as easy to catch two mature magpies at once. They were just trying to be good parents, same as these owls.
Their color allows these birds to blend in well with their background. I learned this personally as a ten year old kid; I nearly stepped on a barn owl chick that had fallen from its nest inside an abandoned silo. One of the parent birds tried it's best to lift my scalp!
Parent birds are crazy protective of their babies! Glad you got to keep your scalp though Jonathan. 😂❤

Miss Magpie won't build her nest there next time. Poor owls, I guess when they get sick of it parents will eat the magpie. Before magpies lay another round, I'd find that magpie nest and move it or get rid of it, of course inbetween when their are eggs planted in nest, so nest is empty and it's a warm time of year. Magpie is just a new mom and won't build her nest with the owls next time, they learn from mistakes just like we do. 😉😊😇🤠🥺😧🤓🥸

Possibly, but as a rule, males attack males and females attack females.
I didn’t realize other Bald Eagles would attack the nest.

The parents returned approximately five hours after placement and as of today, 2/10/21, all is fine...babies are well fed.

Usually when they call out the alarm like that their mate shows up. Surprised it didn't . First time here so don't know names of both the eagles.
At the time of the attack the mate (female) was missing and presumed injured or even dead. Fortunately about two weeks later she returned and fended off any further attacks. Thanks for watching Tamara.
